A player who wants to play in a division above or below their age appropriate division must make a formal request by clicking on one of these links and completing the questionnaire.

PLAY UP REQUEST

PLAY DOWN REQUEST

PRIOR TO STARTING THIS PROCESS, PLEASE BE SURE TO READ THE ENTIRE PLAYER PLAY UP/DOWN REQUEST CRITERIA POLICY.

Requests will only be considered from RETURNING players. NEW players must register and play at their appropriate age.

A player must register in the appropriate division according to their age on May 1 (January 1 for Softball) of the corresponding season prior to submitting a request to play up or play down.

Criteria for consideration is as follows:

PLAY UP

Minimum Criteria which must be met:

  1. A slot must be open in the division.  An age appropriate child in the proper division would not be adversely affected or prevented from playing in his/her division; player requesting to play up cannot prevent an age appropriate child from playing and thereby being placed on the wait list
  2. No more than one (1) year younger than division requesting to play up to IF player is a Coach’s son/daughter AND coach is coaching in the play up division OR no more than 30 days past HPBA age cut-off date
  3. Top 15 player at his/her age in previous year’s division based on overall rating
  4. Previous Head Coach endorses player’s request. Validates player can handle playing in older division AND strongly believes player’s development would be stifled if player remained in lower division
  5. Head Coach willing to take play up player as core pick in older division

If the above criteria is met, then player may be considered for a play up position. Once player is granted play up status, a return during the current season to the lower division will not be allowed under any circumstances.  Approval is only granted for current season; player will have to re-apply if they choose to play up in following years.

PLAY DOWN

Minimum Criteria which must be met:

  1. This is a rare exception and should hardly, if ever, be granted
  2. Safety is the primary consideration
  3. Previous Head Coach endorses player’s request.  Validates player may benefit most by playing another year in the lower division
  4. Parent must confirm that player has not played high school baseball/softball at any level or travel baseball/softball with any organization.
