The 2022 Hamlin Park Baseball Association (HPBA) Program will include nearly 1,000 players (boys and girls ages 5 - 19) participating in 9 different divisions, 6 baseball divisions and 3 softball divisions. As in past years, there continues to be tremendous interest in any openings, and we anticipate that there will be more demand for openings than there are spots available. "Waiting Lists” will be developed for each division.

Important Registration Dates for the 2022 Season

Returning Players:

Saturday, November 20, 2021 (12:01am) -- Early online registration for Summer 2022 season returning players (including those that opted out due to COVID-19 considerations). Space is limited and will fill up quickly. Therefore, early registration is first-come, first-served.

Returning players are considered as any player who was on a HPBA house baseball, HPBA house softball or HPBA travel team roster at the end of the 2021 Summer season. Players who left the league or only played HPBA Fall Ball are not considered returning players. Furthermore, any family with an outstanding balance owed for 2021 must get this resolved before they will be eligible to register for the 2022 season.

Returning players that are invited to participate in early registration are not guaranteed a spot in the upcoming season. There are a limited number of openings in each division and the number of returning players eligible in each division may actually exceed the number of openings available in that division. Per Chicago Park District guidelines, HPBA must also provide the opportunity for new players to join the league via the lottery process. Once these spots are filled on a per division basis, all subsequent registrants will be placed on the wait list and required to enter the league via the New Player Lottery guidelines.

Siblings of Returning Players:

Monday, November 29, 2021 (12:01am) -- Siblings of returning players may register for any remaining 2022 spots in our Rookie, Pee Wee, Bantam, Midget and Liberty Baseball Divisions, as well as the Softball Divisions.

These programs have many returning players who will have the first opportunity to register and siblings of returning players get the secondary opportunity to claim any available spots. Any siblings who do not secure an open spot will be placed on the wait list and must try to get a remaining spot in the new player lottery process.  No spots are guaranteed.

Sunday, December 5, 2021 -- Registration for returning players/siblings closes.

New Player Registration:

Monday, December 13, 2021 -- Online Lottery Pre-Registration for new players opens. All players who register online will be automatically assigned a lottery number in January. (There will be no in-person lottery number pick-up this year.) This includes Returning Players who missed the early registration window

Thursday, January 6, 2022 -- Lottery numbers will be selected to fill all remaining spots. Selected individuals will be contacted by Friday, January 8 to complete their online registration.

Please visit the Online Registration area for information on any divisions may still have openings and to submit a registration.

Scholarship Program

HPBA will be offering families the opportunity to sponsor other deserving players in the program who may not have the financial resources to fully cover their registration fees. If you would like to contribute to our "Jack Burke Scholarship Fund", there will be a place within the registration process for you to make a tax deductible contribution to help these kids participate.

If applying for scholarship, a
Scholarship Application Form should be sent in after filling out the either the online registration form (follow the pay by check directions) or when completing the paper registration form.

General Information

Age cut-off: The birth date cut-off for all baseball divisions is May 1, 2022.  The birth date cut-off for all softball divisions is January 1, 2022 with a Pee Wee softball eligibility exception for girls who will turn 7 between January 1, 2022 - May 1, 2022.

Early Registration: Offered to players who were on an active roster at the end of the most recent, past season of spring/summer baseball or softball.  Early Registration occurs on a first-come, first-served basis and returning players are not "automatically" guaranteed a spot in the upcoming season. Divisions often fill quickly. Returning players may be entered into the Lottery for Open Registration (or may be placed on the Waiting List) if a division is full.

Fund Raising: Each family is required to participate in the HPBA “Parent Grand Slam Raffle” fundraiser. As part of the registration fee each player will receive $50 worth of raffle tickets. As this cost has been included in the base registration fee for each player, the tickets may be sold and the proceeds handled at the family's discretion. The raffle prizes will be awarded in July.

Play Up / Play Down: Returning players may apply to play up or play down to another division.  Candidates must complete the
Play Up / Play Down Application Form in order to be considered.  All players who are new to HPBA are expected to play in the division which is designated for their age and birth date.
